TORUS
n. (pl. -ri ) rounded swelling; Architecture, such as the lowest moulding of column; Botany, receptacle; Geometry, ring shape as of quoit or doughnut formed by the rotation of a circle about an axis in its own plane.
Torus is a recently formed trio with alto saxophonist Drew Pitcher and Colombian guitarist Alejandro Flórez. We all share a love of melody, harmony and the better aspects of the jazz tradition, and the music reflects that understanding. However, this doesn't mean that we don't explore the outer regions of sound, either. Thus far, the trio makes all of our music solely by improvising.
We've recently had an album recorded of some our improvisations by our friend John. It should be released soon. We're also getting prepared for a European tour sometime in early 2006.
